Another gold in weightlifting, Achinta Shuli won the third gold medal for India, President, PM, CM congratulated

Muhammad of Malaysia made a desperate, but futile attempt to lift 175kg to overthrow the Indian, but failed in two attempts, earning Shuli the gold medal.

during Commonwealth Games 2022The Kolkata-based lifter started with a lift of 166kg, then Shuli foiled his 170kg attempt to lift the weight in the third attempt. He then set a new sporting record in lifting a total of 313 kg. He has also been a junior world championship silver medalist.

With Shuli winning the gold medal, the Indian weightlifting contingent has secured its sixth medal in the Games.

Meanwhile, Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga also scripted history in the men’s 67kg final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham to win gold with a record-breaking combined lift of 300kg.

Despite winning a gold medal in the men’s 67kg final, Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga said he was not satisfied with his performance.

He had achieved a record breaking 140kg in snatch category and 160kg lift in clean and jerk category which gave him a lift of 300kg, a record in Commonwealth Games. With his win, Lalrinnunga won the country’s fifth medal at the CWG 2022 and its second gold medal in the event.

Lalrinnunga created a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 140kg in her second snatch attempt. He tried to improve this record by lifting 143 kg in his last attempt but failed to do so. He topped the table in the snatch category with 140kg. At the end of the snatch event, Adeong Joseph Umofia was second with 130kg and Waipawa Ione of Samoa was third with 127kg.

Many big personalities including the country’s President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have congratulated her on this success.
