History of gsd puppy

To identify the history of some breeds (for example, Doberman and Airdale, who were “born” in the 19th century, or the Old English Bulldog was born in 1990), it is enough to go back to official documents and eyewitness accounts. The situation with German Shepherds is completely different. According to researchers, the beginnings of the chain of their immediate predecessors should be explored in depth for centuries.

Archaeological excavations indicate that the animals lived in the modern Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany, even in the fourth millennium BC, with skeletal features similar to those of shepherd dogs. These are the consequences of the evolution of wild people who chose to live near the sites of ancient tribes and became dependent on humans. It is thought that there were still some primitive selections, during which the largest and most obedient puppy was selected.

The existing small Indian wolves gradually moved away from growing “free” relatives and gradually became so-called Bronze Age dogs. People’s needs have changed over time. Not only the peasants, but also the priests were more or less attached to a certain area. Thus, quadrupeds have new features. In the Middle Ages, the Huffwarts bred throughout Europe. This German word is translated as “guardian of the yard”, but dogs were not only employed in the protection of real estate.

Domesticated cattle needed reliable protection from ruthless predators and other human predators. Given the growing stock of needed livestock and livestock, it was simply impossible to do such a thing with the help of herdsmen. Then the yard came to rescue the dogs. Of course, not all were suitable for this kind of work, but only the most quick-witted and tough. They were selected and trained in a special way. And something special is valuable, because already in the 18th century, according to the law of the ancient Germanic tribe of Alemans, the shepherd was awaiting severe punishment for killing the dog.

Of course, the medieval animals of the first age, even in many more epochs, look like modern representatives of the breed. Fundamentally important to the so-called primitive German Shepherd dogs, their head and tail were not considered the size of the position, but the related intelligence, but rather the larger dimensions and a “psychological portrait”. The fact is that the shepherds’ way of life was long interrupted, the animals actually communicated with “their” people during the grazing season and not only clearly obeyed, but also had good companions. +

Things changed somewhat in the eighteenth century. Two regional breeds of German shepherd dogs took shape at once: a half-long-haired Thuringian with a curly gray tail, and a long-haired W আধrttemberg with a black or red half-eared ear. They differed in character: the former were called active animals, prone to the risk of barking loudly and frequently, and the latter could boast of calm and tolerance. In the name of a common cause, breeders in the central and southwestern decided to join the army.

The result of the hard work of enthusiasts was presented only to the general public at the end of the XIX century. Baron von Nig brought two of his pets to the Hanover Dog Show in 18, Griff and the Quirus dog, then the owners of the Ganou Canal heated up the show and showed the public an impressive pair of a large and well-built Pollax and Primor. It is thanks to them that nearly two dozen champions and exhibitors of the next decade were born.

In 1891, the first German Shepherd Dog Society was announced. The Felix organization did not last long, but the breeding standards were managed to be approved. The next notable event should be considered as an exhibition in Karlsruhe, a small town on the German-French border. If it is not possible to see any outstanding representatives of the old-format type, then the event is not noticed by anyone. And not among the participants!

Hector von Lirkenhe entertained the audience with his display of visual skills. In a happy coincidence, retired soldier Max von Stefanitz and his friend Arthur Mayer passed by, devoted to the breeding of their free German shepherds, and instantly noticed the dog’s accurate external data, not inferior to its functional qualities. The owner, however, not only wanted to take part with his pet, it took a few weeks to negotiate

Achieving the ideal “German”, von Stefanitz introduced his first number in a breeding book with a new name – Howard von Grafreth. At the same time, a large-scale search for relatives through the beach type began. Efforts were rewarded, in liters received from Khorand, enough descendants of the dynasty were born. The lines of most modern purebreds are somehow connected to his son Hector von Schwaben, grandson-pilot, Beowulf, Heinz von Starkenberg. The breeding of today’s recognized black and yellow dogs began with the Hotel von Uckmark, the son of Roland von Starkenburg. Another outstanding representative of the species is Claude von Boxberg, who won the 1925 International Exhibition and laid the foundation for a new breeding line.

Max von Stefaniz died in 1936. There is an opinion that indirectly it was easier to be attacked by members of the National Socialist Party, who did not want to popularize German shepherds outside Germany and even threatened to imprison enthusiasts in concentration camps. During World War II, many nurseries were destroyed, many animals died, and no one cared about the purity of their remaining blood. However, several valuable representatives of the breed were saved, and Von Stefanitz’s followers continued to work on the breed during peacetime. The ceremonies resumed in 1946, and five years later a new hero appeared in one of them – Founder.

The German Shepherd Dog Owners Union was formed in April 1899. The activities of Von Stefanitz, Mayer and other leaders were primarily to maintain the purity of the blood, which would be confirmed by the relevant documents, should encourage outstanding breeders and develop the working qualities of the breed. The organization still exists and an international association was established in May 1986, now known as the World Union of German Shepherd Associations and brings together 89 national unions from 72 countries.
